Untitled, 2023 (framed) is an installation reflecting on the word “frame” and the transformation of its part of speech and the dynamic interaction between the material frame and the conceptual frame.
This installation is a combination of the selected collections from depot and two works from the artist: Still Life and Framed.
Still life is a series of three moving-image objects. They are created as a response to painting "The glorification of Cornelis de Witt', after Jan de Baen. As a Taiwanese woman, I couldn’t relate to the content or the history of this painting. But what caught my attention was the frame of the painting. The patterns of the frame were not merely decoration, they were related to the painting itself, as if the frame is the extension or a part of the painting. Frame as a part of the artwork became a convention during the Renaissance period and thereafter, regardless of a material one or a conceptual one. I followed the model of The glorification of Cornelis de Witt, created these three framed moving images. They are not about the glorification of hero or some memorial moments, but just three mundane scenes from a person’s life.
Framed is a voice message, a love letter for the object that present most of the images you see after the first decade of the 21st century. An object with the slimmest frame but framed you the most
